Hey, I am Dina Anaya — and I want to tell you something most bookkeepers would never admit.
I used to be you.
I spent years running my own custom apparel business — embroidery, DTF transfers, personalized sweatshirts and hoodies selling on Etsy, Shopify, and TikTok Shop. I know what it feels like to have a craft room full of orders, a TikTok Shop blowing up during the holidays, and a bank account that does not match the chaos.
I had QuickBooks. I had an accounting degree. And I still sat down in January after my biggest sales season ever and realized I had barely made a profit.
Not because I was not working hard. Not because I did not care. But because nobody had ever taught me how to connect my financial reality to the business decisions I was making every single day. I was pricing based on what competitors charged. I was ignoring supplier price increases. I was doing Amazon panic runs at full retail price when I ran out of blanks during Q4. And my bookkeeping was six months behind because I was too busy fulfilling orders to deal with it.
Sound familiar?
That moment changed everything.
I went deep into the numbers. I got my QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification. I joined the QuickBooks Live Expert team — where I spent years on the inside of Intuit answering urgent bookkeeping questions from real business owners every single day. I have seen inside hundreds of small business books — the organized ones, the messy ones, and the ones that looked fine on the surface but were hiding a financial crisis underneath.
And through all of it I kept thinking — someone needs to be talking to custom apparel sellers specifically. Someone who actually understands the difference between a DTF transfer cost and a blank garment cost. Someone who knows how Etsy payouts work and why they never match what your dashboard shows. Someone who has lived the Q4 chaos and come out the other side with real answers.
So I started Anaya Bookkeeping. And I launched The Maker's Money Podcast. Because the custom apparel community deserves a financial expert who actually gets their world.
What I believe:
I believe knowing your numbers is not just a bookkeeping task — it is a business superpower. When you know your real cost of goods, your actual profit margin, and where your money is going every month — you make better decisions. You price with confidence. You market smarter. You stop working for free and start building something real.
I also believe bookkeeping does not have to be scary, boring, or overwhelming. It just needs someone to explain it in a way that actually makes sense for YOUR business.
That is what I am here for.
A little more about me:
When I am not in the numbers I am a mom to seven kids — yes seven — a Las Vegas Raiders fan, a puzzle lover, and someone who genuinely believes everyone deserves a business that pays them what they are worth.
My husband is my biggest supporter and occasional packing assistant during Q4 — he knows firsthand what it looks like when the craft room takes over the whole house.
I am based in Lodi, California and I work with custom apparel sellers all over the country.
